Hardwood Conservatories

Conservatories date back to the eighteenth century, when they were originally designed for the conservation and propagation of precious plants collected by wealthy aristocrats who grew rich from trading with exotic lands, including Africa, India and the Far East. The demand was created by their need to establish a warm climate within the confines of the British weather where their plants would thrive.

At first, conservatories were constructed of brick pillars fitted with glass. Iron and steel frames became popular during the Industrial Revolution but were prone to rust and leakage. In the middle of the twentieth century, hardwood was the preferred material. Most conservatories in recent years, however, have structures made of plastic (PVCu) or aluminium, which gave a price advantage over hardwood.

Recently, there has been a steady return in demand for traditional hardwood structures, which have superior looks and, thanks to the modern paint technology adopted by Heritage Hardwood, durability and low maintenance.

There are endless designs that we at Heritage Hardwood are able to offer as our conservatory range is completely bespoke and designed individually to suit your home. Here are just some of the styles available along with a closer look at the type of detailing achievable with Hardwood...
