Maintenance

Do Hardwood products mean more maintenance?

Warping, twisting, cracking, splitting, painting and rot are all problems that have been associated with cheap timber. A Heritage Hardwood products offers a superior quality which requires little maintenance.

Heritage uses timber called IDIGBO, which is a versatile timber from sustainable plantation sources in the Ivory Coast in West Africa . It is a class 1 hardwood conforming to BS1186, and being as strong and stiff as English Oak and stronger than Brazilian Mahogany, selected sections are used for a combination of strength, durability. Idigbo has a natural resistance to rot and fungal attack and natural oil content which makes it resistant to moisture penetration.

Heritage also use SAPELE, which is also an African hardwood and retains the same properties as Idigbo.

Conservatory roofs

The roof of the conservatory is maintenance free as all the roof weather capping are polyester powder coated aluminium, as are the finials and cresting.

The paint and natural stain finishes are applied using a three-stage process. The primer and topcoat are spray applied in the factory. All stain, paint primers and finishes are micro porous allowing the timber to breathe naturally. The only maintenance required here is a wipe down and re-paint once every 5-7 years.

The hardware incorporates modern systems that are usually associated with top quality PVCu installations. Only a light oiling is required once every six months to keep the working parts fully functioning. This will be supplied to you free of charge with the order.

All in all you are left with little more maintenance than would be expected of you with other materials.
